Context: Nepal is exposed to various geophysical and climatic hazards which each year kill hundreds of people and wreak vast economic damage. Nepal stands at the top 20th on the list of the most multi-hazard prone countries in the world. It is ranked at the 11th in earthquake risk, 4th in climate change risk and 30th in flood risk. Major disasters in Nepal are earthquake, flood, landslide, drought, storm, hailstorm, avalanches, cold-waves, forest fire and Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF). Flood, landslide, epidemic, thunderbolt and forest fires are recurring disasters.
Present Situation: As dry season has begun in Nepal, fire and forest fires disaster has begun in Nepal. On 23 March, 2017 Home Ministry of Nepal to made statement to be alert, aware and mitigate on fire related disasters at this dry season. After Summer Season June-August is monsoon and there happens heavy rain falls. There happened landslide mostly in hilly areas and floods at flat land areas in different part of Nepal.
Since its establishment NCRS has been providing Emergency Relief as a quick response to disaster affected areas. NCRS gets request from local church and Christian leaders for the relief materials. As dry season has started we have got several requests to provide relief for fire and hailstorm affected families from Kavre, Sindhupalchowk, Kanchanpur and Makwanpur district. In Makwanpur district 51 houses have been damaged by the storm in Kutsing of Rakisirang VDC where 20 houses were completely damaged and are in need of immediate response and relief.
Proposed Relief Intervention: Recently, as an immediate response NCRS has provided relief support to Fire affected three families in Kanchanpur and Kavre district. We are getting number of request for relief from various church and affected families. NCRS want to reach to the affected families as an immediate response.
This year we want to reach 500 families with food and non- food items as a relief. We need $142.3, to reach one family with relief. Please find the Cost estimated below.
