LIVELIHOOD FOR SUSTAINABILITY

 

Kavre WASH & Livelihood Project

In response to helping earthquake affected people under Kavre Rebuilding Project, NCRS in partnership with Samaritan’s Purse Nepal worked to restore and improve the lives of those people mentally, physically and economically by promoting improved Livelihood technologies and practices and establishing micro-finance cooperatives, establishing sustainable water supply systems and hygiene facilities for the community and empowering adults and children to ensure greater protection of child rights.

 

WASH

The remaining work from F/Y 2074/2075 of five water systems namely Tallo Aishelu water system, Sirandada water system of Panauti water and sanitation system from Panauti & Namobuddha municipality have been completed and brought into operation for the beneficiaries.

WASH Training

Training on water treatment, hygiene promotion, and water system management and maintenance has been provided to 104 water users (M=59, F=45) of five different water systems.

 

Livelihood Training

Orientation on co-operative management and technical review training was conducted to 458 beneficiaries of Chicken Farming, Goat Farming, Bee Keeping, Cardomom Farming, and Cow/Buffalo Raising where 15 Self Help Groups (SHGs) were formed under Kavre Rehabilitation Project-2017(11 SHGs) and KLP-2018 (4 SHGs).

Child Protection Training

Under Child Protection Training, 458 parents participated in the orientation program in order to raise awareness on child rights and the importance of child protection. A total of 446 students from vulnerable families selected across various community schools of both Panauti and Namobuddha municipalities had been provided with uniforms as educational support.

Sindhuli Livelihood Project

Districts: Bhugolchhap, Sunkoshi Rural Municipality, Sindhuli
No. of beneficiaries: 80 households
Dates: Feb 12, 2018- May 15, 2019 (Magh 29, 2074- Jestha 01, 2076)

Activities under this project:

  • Provided 3 days of goat keeping training to 30 households, poultry farming training to 25 households and rabbit farming training to 25 households.

  • Chickens distributed to 25 households (23 chicks to each household).
  • Rabbits distributed to 25 households (3 rabbits to each household; 2 females and 1 male).
  • Goats distributed to 30 households (2 goats to each household).
  • Materials distributed for shed constructions for chicken, rabbit, and goat farming groups.
  • 2 Boer goats distributed to the goat farming group.
  • Provided 2 days of lemon plantation training to 50 families and plants were distributed to each family.
  • 3 days of refresher training given to 3 farming groups.

On the 15th of May 2019, Social Audit was conducted successfully. During the event, beneficiaries and government officials were invited and we received positive feedback from them. Especially, Chairman from Rural Municipality in her speech expressed her gratitude towards NCRS and funding partners. She appreciates the work that has been done in Sindhuli and was thankful for the genuine love and care to the needy people and community to upgrade their economic and social status.

After completion of Social Audit, Sindhuli Livelihood Project is officially completed and we have achieved our objective. Throughout the feedback from beneficiaries, we got to know that this support has helped them to support their families and this project is helping them to upgrade their living standards.

Gorkha Livelihood Project & WASH Project

WASH and livelihood project at Dhuwakot-8, Palungtar Municipality, Gorkha was started on October 23, 2018. This is an ongoing project. This WASH and livelihood project will directly benefit more than 200 households. The project aims to improve sanitation and hygiene situations by increasing their access to water as per need and the vegetable farming training will increase their family income.
